Using the drawings

You're welcome to use these drawings in anything non-commercial, as long as you credit them. They're licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International licence.

You can

  • Use them in personal projects, school and uni work, club newsletters, community and not-for-profit websites, presentations, posts and videos.
  • Share copies of them.
  • Change them: recolour them, crop them, add a number or a destination, or put them in your own artwork.

You must credit them

Wherever a drawing appears, credit Jack Jacobs, link back to this site and name the licence. This line does all three:

Train drawing by Jack Jacobs, drawings.trainnotes.au, CC BY-NC 4.0

Every train also carries a small signature, @jacojac, in its bottom right corner. Please leave it on. If you paint over it or crop it off, put the credit next to the drawing instead. If you changed the drawing, say so.

Ask first for commercial use

The licence doesn't cover using the drawings for money. That includes:

  • merchandise, prints, stickers or anything else that's sold
  • paid apps, games and products
  • advertising, and business or company material

Email jack@ilaria.com.au with what you'd like to make and where it will be sold or shown. If you're not sure whether your use counts as commercial, ask.

Liveries and trade marks

The drawings show trains in their operators' colours so they look like the real thing. The licence covers the drawings only. It gives you no rights in any operator's name, logo, livery or other trade marks, and you mustn't use a drawing in a way that suggests an operator made, endorsed or sponsored your work.

Operator logos are left off every drawing, and this site isn't affiliated with or endorsed by any railway operator.

This page is a plain-English summary. The terms that apply are the CC BY-NC 4.0 legal code. Under it, non-commercial means not primarily intended for or directed towards commercial advantage or monetary compensation.
